Kazakhstan’s stand on Iraq
Kazakhstan stands for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Iraq, establishment of peace and security, UN’s leading role in the process of post-war reconstruction of the country.
Kazakhstan supports the new Constitution of Iraq adopted on 15th of October 2005 that comes out as an important step on the way to political and economic revival of the country. High electoral activity was the evidence that most of Iraqi people are in favor of stabilization of the situation and return to peaceful life.
Iraq's Parliament approved on December 21 2010 the composition of the Government of National Partnership, formed by the Prime Minister N.al-Maliki.
Astana welcomes this significant and important event for Iraq. It is the culmination of ten months of intense negotiations and contacts between the leading political associations to win the parliamentary elections of March 7th 2010. We note with satisfaction that the Iraq demonstrated its commitment and ability to build consensus and mutually acceptable compromises through democratic means within the constitutional framework.
We hope that the new Iraqi Government will focus primarily on ensuring national reconciliation which is the key to solve the difficult problems facing currently Iraq, to strengthen its sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity. We are convinced that this will positively affect the stability and security in the region.
Our soldiers have destroyed about 4 millions of explosive ordnances which ensured normal work of hospitals, schools and other institutions. In addition, more than 240 Iraqi soldiers have been trained, and together with the Polish contingent we have provided medical assistance to more than 2,500 civilians and soldiers of the Coalition.
